Orange Sakura orange eyes “Orange Demon are orange-colored Neocaridina shrimp with orange eyes. This line actually appeared in our tanks by pure coincidence and was never originally bred intentionally. During our breeding of the Green Demon, a few orange individuals appeared, which we simply separated and later stabilized through selective breeding over the following generations.

Our comment: Important! The orange eyes naturally have little contrast on the orange body. In addition, the eyes only become clearly visible under good lighting conditions – without strong lighting, the shrimp are hardly distinguishable from normal Orange Sakura shrimp (with black eyes). Unfortunately, the eyes are also difficult to photograph or film under weaker lighting, so they may appear slightly darker in your aquarium.

How stable is this line? The Orange Demon is a relatively new breeding form. The coloration is not yet quite as stable as in our standard Orange Sakura line, which remains a goal of further selection. When the animals are bred among themselves, 100% of the offspring inherit the orange eyes, while around 60–70% of the shrimp develop a fully even orange coloration. The color tone can also still vary slightly between lighter and darker shades of orange.

Neocaridina with orange eyes? Since 2021 we have been offering offspring from our Neocaridina breeding lines with orange eyes (OE). The inheritance of the orange eyes is stable. Visually, the orange eyes of Neocaridina can be distinguished from the orange eyes of Tiger shrimp because they contain a darker spot in the center, possibly indicating remaining pigment. A detailed article about these animals was published in Caridina Magazine (issue 2/2022). You can find more information about this topic here.

Size at sale: We ensure a balanced mix of females, males, and juvenile shrimp (approximately one third each) in every group.

General care and breeding: Like all dwarf shrimp of the genus Neocaridina, these animals are very adaptable and can usually be kept without problems in tap water (18–26 °C). In our facility, the tap water parameters are: pH 7.6, gH 10, kH 9, conductivity 600 µS, 22 °C. The shrimp feed on common fish food, algae growth, as well as dead plant and animal material. This makes them excellent scavengers that contribute to the biological balance of the aquarium. Keeping them together with small to medium-sized aquarium fish can work, although sufficient hiding places such as moss and roots are recommended. Under optimal conditions, the shrimp quickly grow into lively colonies.
