The Blue Jelly Orange Eyes features a transparent, light-blue body coloration and, thanks to its orange eyes, is one of the more unusual color variants of Neocaridina davidi. Characteristic of this line is its soft, jelly-like blue coloration, which is noticeably lighter and more translucent than that of Blue Dream, Blue Velvet, or Blue Diamond shrimp. The name "Blue Jelly" originates from this delicate light-blue appearance. The orange eyes create a fascinating contrast to the pale blue body color and give this rare breeding line a truly distinctive appearance.
This line was awarded 2nd place in Category 2 at the TGISC 2025.
How stable is this line? Like many of our Orange Eyes (OE) lines, the Blue Jelly OE is still a relatively young breeding project. Some offspring may still display traces of red pigmentation, as red-colored Neocaridina were used during the development of this line. When bred within the line, 100% of the offspring inherit the orange eyes, while approximately 70% develop a uniform blue coloration.
Neocaridina with orange eyes? Since 2021, we have been offering offspring from our Neocaridina breeding lines with orange eyes (OE). The inheritance of the orange eye trait is stable. Visually, the orange eyes of Neocaridina can be distinguished from those of Orange Eye Tiger shrimp by the presence of a dark spot in the center, which may indicate residual pigmentation. We published a detailed article about these shrimp in Caridina Magazine (Issue 2/2022). You can find more information on this topic here.
Size at sale: We aim to provide a balanced mix of females, males, and juveniles, with each group representing approximately one-third of the animals supplied.
General care and breeding information: Like all dwarf shrimp of the genus Neocaridina, these animals are highly adaptable and can usually be kept without difficulty in tap water (18–26 °C). In our facility, the tap water parameters are: pH 7.6, GH 10, KH 9, conductivity 600 µS, and 22 °C. The shrimp feed on standard fish food, algae growth, as well as decaying plant and animal matter. This makes them excellent scavengers that contribute to the biological balance of the aquarium. Keeping them together with small to medium-sized aquarium fish can work well, although sufficient hiding places such as mosses and driftwood are recommended. Under optimal conditions, the shrimp reproduce readily and quickly develop into vibrant colonies.
